DIY Interlude: Build a Cheese Press from Pasta Pots

OK so the last press didn't work so well. I was thinking that this time, I would get something round, say two plastic pasta sauce containers that fit in one another. Drill them out, and slap them in a vice.

Building Press 2
So that's what I did.

Here is whats to become the outer part of the press:

It has a few dozen holes drilled in it with my Argos-Dremel. I didn't put many (less than 10) into the flat bottom as I felt it would weaken it too much.

Here is the inner part

With holes drilled to allow the squeezed out whey to go in side as well as outside

Here is the inner sitting in the outer:

And the final piece of the  puzzle is a G-clamp that I bought from Gills (established 1530) in Oxford for under four quid:

Can you see how that's all going to work?

Here is a picture of it in action with a fresh cheese inside:

I popped the cheese curds into the muslin, dropped that into my press, put the top on, and put the clamp across it.
Almost instantly, more whey started to seep out.
Then unfortunately, little worms of curds started to follow, so I had to ease the pressure.

Conclusions coming soon
