DIY Interlude: Build A Cheese Press from Stackable Boxes

It turns out that cheese presses are pricey things, OK, so I found a £36 one on ebay, but I'm too impatient, so I decided to buy something to build one. How hard can it be?

So I naively figured that all I need to do was somehow assemble two plates, between which my cheese could be placed. Then I would put some weight on top, and it would push out the whey. I assumed that the plates would need holes in to let the whey drain through.

After a bit of digging around in Boswell's in oxford, I found two plastic boxes that fit snugly inside each other, and decided they would do.

Here is one:

So I took my trusty Argos-dremel and drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom:

My plan was that I put this box on the bottom then put the cheese in it, and jam the second identical box on top and put a brick, or just some easy to find weight on it to squeeze the cheese.
- It wasn't to work out. More on that later. So Running out of time I had to move to stage 2: Rennet mixing and curd action.
